Dezincification of components from copper-zinc alloys (brass) occurs if the electro-
lyte of the alloy component zinc attacks more strongly than the alloy component copper.

Dezincification can be recognised, mostly already with the naked eye after removal of the corrosion products, by the reddish surface of otherwise yellowy gold brass.
